Best AI tool to build a small game

You've got an idea for a tiny game: a one-screen arcade thing, a little platformer, a weird puzzle. You want it playable this weekend, not in six months.
The short pick
Claude Code + Phaser — an AI coding agent that works in your project folder, plus a free, open-source browser game framework (Phaser v4.2.1 is the latest release ✅).
Why: the agent can create files, run your dev server, read the errors, and fix them. Phaser runs in any browser, so sharing your game is just sending a link. Claude Code comes with Claude Pro at $20/mo ($17/mo billed annually) ✅. It's not on the free Claude plan ✅.
Alternatives
| Tool | Good for | Price (checked Oct 16, 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Rosebud AI | No-code: describe the game in chat, play it in the browser | Free tier; paid from $15/mo ⚠️ unverified |
| Cursor | You like seeing the code in an editor and approving edits | Free; Plus $8/mo (Cursor/Grok models only); Premium $30/mo ✅ |
| Replit Agent | Zero install, everything in the browser, one-click publish | Starter free; Core $20/mo ✅ |
How to start (about 20 minutes)
- Install Node.js (LTS) and Claude Code. Sign in with your Claude account.
- Make an empty folder:
mkdir my-game && cd my-game - Start the agent in that folder and ask for the smallest possible thing first:
"Set up a Vite + Phaser project. One scene, a square I can move with arrow keys. Tell me the command to run it."
- Run it. Move the square. Commit to git now. (
git init && git add . && git commit -m "it moves") - Add one mechanic per prompt: enemies, then score, then game over. Commit after each one that works.
- When it's fun for 30 seconds, stop adding and polish: sound, a title screen, a restart button.
Tip: the most common way vibe-coded games die is "add five features at once". One feature, test, commit. Repeat.
